Milly & Sammy - Hard Cover Book
Green Door DecorAbout the Book
Out on the farm they call home, a beautiful bond is formed between Milly, the orphaned calf, and Sammy, the cattle pup-in-training. They spend their days running carefree through the paddocks, chasing butterflies and bees, and exploring their shared world with no mind paid to their differences.
But Milly and Sammy are reminded constantly that life on the farm means hard work for everyone and they must do as they’re told.
But when a terrible thing happens, Sammy is faced with an impossible choice: do what’s expected of him, or follow his heart and look out for his new best friend.
Set on a cattle farm in rural Australia, Milly & Sammy is an endearing tale of an unlikely friendship, overcoming challenges, and staying true to what you believe. Children's author Fiona Antony and illustrator Sunshine bring to life loveable characters in a picturesque pastoral setting and shares with children and adults alike lifelong lessons in the strength of friendship and the importance of following your heart.
About the Author, Fiona Antony
Fiona Antony, the debut author of the children's book 'Milly & Sammy', is from Portland, Victoria. She has been working as a Registered Nurse, predominantly as a District Nurse and Community Palliative Care Nurse, locally over the last 12 years. Fiona has grown up immersed in the arts: particularly music, theatre and children's literature and loves that you can be taken away from reality and plunged into a world of colour, adventure and make-believe. It was from this love of the arts, coupled with the 2021 COVID lockdown that 'Milly & Sammy' was created.
Fiona also runs a small beef farm with her husband and it's the animals on this farm that have inspired the characters in her book. Fiona's love of children's literature grew even more when she became a Mum. She now has school-aged boys and is step Mum to young adults, who have also inspired her writings.
In a child-friendly and colourful way, 'Milly and Sammy' is the first book in a series that tackles big childhood experiences such as courage, inclusion, kindness, honesty, resilience in the face of adversity, cancer, grief and loss, change and ageing.
About the Illustrator, Sunshine
I LOVE stories and being able to interpret stories visually is what I do! I'm a storyteller with PICTURES!
I'm what they call a traditional illustrator which basically just means I create my silly Characters and lovely Landscapes in a traditional medium. For me I mostly use Watercolour. Watercolour has a 'feel' of its own that works wonderfully with children's books, it really grabs the imagination!
Aside from illustrating kid's books I love getting kids EXCITED about stories and illustration! I have a horde of children running around with sharpened pencils ready to take on the world after one of my Illustration workshops and it makes me so happy! I love drawing and arting and if I can inspire just one kid to love it just as much as I do, then I've done my job right!
